Nygaard, Voss, Mills, Steuber, Larson, Schroeder, and Coopman Take 2nd Fall Extravaganza Wins
By: Tom Svoboda/Jackson Speedway

Jackson Minnesota (October 4, 2008) – The 2008 racing season concluded this past Saturday night with the running of the 2nd Performance Center of Estherville IA and Media Com Fall Extravaganza.  Winning the nights feature events were Wade Nygaard, Fargo ND, Jackson Speedway Touring Series 360 Sprints; Ryan Voss, Okoboji IA, 305 Sprints; Stacy Mills, Webb IA, Modifieds; Kyle Steuber, Fairmont MN, B Modifieds; Jeffrey Larson, Rushmore MN, Performance Center Stock Cars; Stac Schroeder, Clear Lake IA, Yellow Book Hobby Stocks; and Nate Coopman, Mankato MN, Hornets.

The 20-lap JSTS 360 Sprint car feature was led start to finish by Wade Nygaard.  At the start of the race, Nygaard grabbed the early lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Lee Grosz, Harwood ND, grabbed the second spot with Mark Toews, Spirit Lake IA, the third spot.  The leaders raced in this order for the races first three laps when the caution flag came out for Shawn Van Wyhe, Rock Rapids IA, who came to a stop on the back straightaway.  On the restart Nygaard would keep the field behind him, but two laps later Toews lost the third spot to Jake Leighty, Worthington MN.  With Nygaard up front, Grosz would maintain second and Leighty in third.  On lap ten the caution came out when Austin Peirce, Grand Forks ND, spun in turn two.  On the restart, Grosz would challenge Nygaard, as the two raced side by side for the lead.  Also on that restart, fifth place running Gregg Bakker, Sioux Fall SD, had a great run and got by Toews and Leighty, moving him up to the third spot.  As Grosz would continue to challenge Nygaard for the lead Bakker would set his sights looking for the lead.  On lap seventeen, again Nygaard and Grosz would race side by side for the lead with Bakker right behind, when the caution came out for Jake Leighty and Austin Peirce who made contact on the front straightaway sending both of them sliding down the front chute.  Both cars needed to be taken off the track on the tow truck.  That set up a three lap dash to the finish and on the green it was Nygaard maintaining his lead, but Grosz would lose second to Bakker. However on the next lap Grosz got back around Bakker putting him back to third.  When the checkered flag flew it was Wade Nygaard taking the win followed by Lee Grosz, Gregg Bakker, Mark Toews, and Chuck Swenson, Watertown SD.  Heat races were won by Jake Leighty, Wade Nygaard, and Mark Toews.

Three different drivers led in the 12-lap 305 Sprint Car feature race.  At the drop of the green it was Shadrach Sporaa, Boone IA, getting the early lead.  Nate Eakin, Milford IA, got the second spot with Ryan Voss the third spot.  On lap two Eakin would get by Sporaa and take the lead coming out of turn four.  Two laps later Voss would get around Sporaa for the second spot and set his sights on leader Nate Eakin.  As the field worked on the ninth lap Voss would make his move coming out of turn four and grab the lead.  The races only caution came out on lap ten when Jake Nicosen, Ringsted IA, spun in turn two.  On the restart, Ryan Voss would keep the field behind him and go on to take the win.  Nate Eakin was second followed by Shadrach Sporaa, Curt Thurmer, Jackson MN, and Steve Yarns, Jackson MN.  The heat race was won by Nate Eakin.

The 20-lap Modified feature saw only one caution and one lead change with a Mills leading the entire race.  When the green flag dropped it was Stacy Mills, getting the early lead with Jeremy Mills, Garner IA, getting the second spot.  Oliver Kollofski, Fairmont MN, would get the third spot.  At the end of lap one the caution came out for Chad Porter, Madison Lake MN, who spun coming out of turn two.  On the restart, Stacy Mills kept Jeremy Mills behind but Jeremy would stay right on Stacy's tail.  Just before the halfway point in the race, Jeremy would make the pass on Stacy, but Stacy would get the lead back on the next lap, as Jeremy would continue to challenge Stacy for the lead. While the field was working on lap fifteen, Jeremy Mills would slow and pull into the pits.  That handed second place over to Oliver Kollofski. With Stacy Mills comfortably up front, he would go on to take the win.  Kollofski would take second followed by Roger Nielsen, Estherville IA, Josh Meyer, Fairmont MN, and Clayton Christenson, Spencer IA.  Heat races went to Jeremy Mills and Josh Meyer.

Two different drivers led in the 20-lap caution filled Stock Car feature race.  At the start it was Jerry Coopman, Mankato MN, getting the early lead with Tom Sierck, Spencer IA, getting the second spot, and Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, the third position.  On lap four Jeffrey Larson would move from the fifth spot to the third spot.  Two laps later, Larson would challenge Sierck for second and on lap seven would make the pass.  On lap twelve Larson was able to make the pass for the lead coming out of turn two.  Coopman would then try to defend the second spot, but was not able to as Chad Schroeder, Henderson MN, got around him on lap fourteen.  Coopman would get second back on lap fifteen, Schroeder would take the spot back on lap sixteen.  With Jeffrey Larson up front, he would go on to take the win.  Chad Schroeder took second followed by Jerry Coopman, Luke Sathoff, Jackson MN, and Jake Masters, Graettinger IA.  Heat races went to Roger Verdoorn, Sibley IA, Jeff Senne, Fairmont MN, and Jerry Coopman.

The 15-lap B Modified feature was led start to finish by Kyle Steuber.  On the first start of the race, several cars got together in turn two forcing a complete restart.  On the complete restart, it was Steuber getting the lead from his outside row one starting spot.  Dan Hanselman, Algona IA, got the second spot with Jason Fisher, Lakefield MN, getting the third spot.  The leaders maintained their running order through one restart, when another caution came out late in the race for third place running Jason Fisher who came to a stop in turns three and four.  That set-up a two lap dash to the finish and taking the win was Kyle Steuber, followed by Dan Hanselman, Mike Albert, Spirit Lake IA, Dan Paplow, Dundee MN, and Jason DeBeor, Sioux Center IA.  Heat races were won by Ken Odegaard, Welcome MN, Dan Paplow, and Kyle Steuber.

Several caution flags slowed action in the 12-lap Hobby stock feature.  At the start of the race Chad Carlson, Ormsby MN, would get the lead with John Briggs, Calumet IA, getting the second spot, and Stac Schroeder, getting the third spot. Through the middle portion of the race, caution flags would follow after each lap was completed.  Chad Carlson would lead through the races first three quarters of the event, keeping the field behind him.  Late in the race, Stac Schroeder would get a good run and move into the lead.  He would lead the remaining laps and go on to take the win.  Chad Carlson settled for second followed by John Briggs, Jerry Gronewold, Worthington MN, and Dan Thate, Fairmont MN.  Heat races went to Kurt Fothergill, Fenton IA, Stac Schroeder, and Jerry Gronewold.

The 8-lap Hornet feature was won by Nate Coopman who got the lead on the second lap and held off the field through the rest of the race including one restart.  Mike Blowers, Waseca MN, was second followed by Arond Peil, Brewster MN, Mick Rykhus, Eagle Lake MN, and Denny Johnson, Madelia MN. Heat races went to Jason McShane, Waseca MN, Arond Peil, and Nate Coopman.
