May 9,
2008 - Jackson, MN - On a cool and partly cloudy night the
Jackson Speedway kicked off its 2008 racing season with the first
annual Folkens Brothers Trucking/Van Wyhe Livestock Spring Sprint
Car Nationals. A total of 72 Sprint cars in three classes
checked in for the nights racing action which saw Clint Garner,
Sioux Falls SD, take the Jackson Speedway Touring Series 360 Sprint
feature; Jay Rickert, Glencoe MN, Jackpot Junction IMCA Touring
Series Sprints; and Mike Blomstrom, Ft. Dodge IA, taking the Double
Barrel Sprint feature race.
The 20-lap JSTS Sprint feature
race saw three different leaders and also four red flags fly.
At the start of the race it was Jake Peters,
Sioux Falls
SD
getting the early lead from his inside pole starting position.
Peters would lead through the races first three laps when the red
flag came out when Mike Sitzman, Jr.,
Tappen
ND
made contact with the front stretch wall and catch fence sending him
flipping several times. In the process of trying to avoid the
wreck, Chad Meyer,
Sioux Falls
SD,
also ended up flipping. Meyer would actually flip over the top
of Sitzman and come to a rest further off the track.

date of May 18 for the drivers of the new slingshot class to be ran

JSTS to run with the
WDRL at Spencer on Friday, July 4th!
May 8, 2008 - Spencer, IA - The Jackson Speedway
Touring Series (JSTS) adds Friday, July 4th at the Clay County
Raceway to its 2008 schedule. For this race the JSTS will be the
support class to the World Dirt Racing League (WDRL) Late Models.
This marks the 10th date on the JSTS schedule.
Jackson Speedway Promoter John McCorkell had this to say:
"All the drivers I have talked to are thrilled to have a 360 Sprint
Car Race at the Clay County Raceway. It is 40 miles from Jackson and
to have another race for our local teams to "sell" to their sponsors
is big for them."
We are extremely pleased to be working with the Clay County Raceway.
I had not heard from them in quite a while, so I was not sure if we
were in the plans or not. I felt we had a lot to offer, a great
bunch of racers and fans, great insurance coverage and close
proximity to help promote not only this race but their World of
Outlaw Race.
Not only getting a date at the Clay County Raceway, but to be
teaming up with an organization like the WDRL is just awesome. This
should be one of the top shows in the area, and should be a great
prelude to the World of Outlaw race in September. This race should
have a great car count for both the Late Models and the 360 Sprints,
and they are planning a huge fireworks display after the race.
This date should work out very well as we were already working on a
July 3rd special at Jackson. This will give most of the 360 Sprint
Car teams two dates close to one another, and still have the July
4th weekend off.
Jackson Speedways Take To The Highways
With Touring Series And ASA Member Track Affiliation
DAYTONA BEACH,
Fla. (April 2, 2008) – Jon McCorkell, promoter of Jackson (Minn.)
Speedway, has his eye on the future, and it is looking at both the
new Jackson Speedway Touring Series and an ASA Member Track
affiliation as two ways for his racetrack to stand out and bring in
new race fans.
McCorkell
emphatically states that the 360 Sprint Cars are the premier
division for his half-mile racetrack, and he is looking at ways to
help increase the car count and keep teams coming back. One way was
to develop the Jackson Speedway Touring Series this season.
